GOOD MORNING PODCAST NATION.

Did anyone else spend 20+ hours watching the live feed of the dragon launch this weekend?

On to the notes!

This week's premium post is Angel investor Balaji S. Srinivasan'd talk at Y Combinator.  He talks about how to change systems from the outside and how the world is evolving.

1. So you’re saying there’s a chance: A VC’s “No” doesn’t last forever. Investors can pass on your company early on but that same investor could invest later.

2. A solution to housing shortages? Half of the landlords in America only own 1-2 buildings. Landlords may start to convert commercial real estate into residential properties to generate a better income stream.

3. College shouldn’t be for everyone: “We should be graduating half as many people from colleges as we are currently graduating.” Skills like being an electrician or a plumber won’t be automated away soon, yet less people are willing to learn them. – Dave Collum

4. Looking on the bright side: “I don’t bitch and complain about the things that I can’t change. And the things that you can change, why spend time bitching if you’re gonna change it?” – Kevin Hart

5. Practice what you Preach: This pandemic is a test for companies to see if they’ll maintain their brand and keep their core values. “What happens to your brand when the customer finds out that you left the back door open?” – Liz Miller

6. Do An Integrity Cleanse: Set an alarm to go off every 30 minutes and you ask yourself if you’re lying – Elizabeth Gilbert

7. Sniffing Out the Rotten Eggs:  “When you start seeing a subscription service increase prices, people look at it as a willingness to pay indicator, I look at it as a, I saturated my ability to continue growing my base and I now have to monetize my existing base more” – Shishir Mehrotra

8. Picking a Winner: “A pure software business has perfect gross margins and unit economics because all of the cost is in creating the first copy of the software—the variable cost of producing additional copies is zero” – David Sacks

9. It's the Sleep, stupid: 70% of Americans have sleep issues and if you don’t feel refreshed upon waking up you probably do too.

10. You’re lifting wrong: Traditional strength standards (bench press, back squat, deadlift) are too specialized and don’t accurately translate to ability in dynamic movements. New suggestion for strength standards based on Michael Medici’s theories: overhead press, front squat, deadlift
